What is this site about?

An independent register of battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles offered for sale new in Australia from model year 2021 and onwards. It holds … records across … manufacturers and … models, at one record per variant per model year. Only a small number of pertinent fields along with their respective values have been included by design. It is not intended to be anything other than a site that just draws together pertinent data about new BEVs and PHEVs in Australia.

The register includes every price point, from the cheapest hatch to limited-run supercars; if it is sold new here and can be plugged in, it belongs in the register. Note: Actual vehicle pricing and detailed information regarding specifications, functions, features and so on is excluded by design as this information and more can be found on manufacturer and/or importer/distributor/dealer sites as well as a range of comprehensive and respected 3rd party vehicle-focused sites.

What is excluded from the register?

Not included are hybrids (HEVs) that cannot be plugged in, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles (FCEVs), heavy trucks and buses and models announced but not yet delivered to Australian customers.

What about discontinued vehicles?

Models withdrawn since 2021 are kept rather than deleted, marked Discontinued for the sake of completeness and historical purposes.

Where does the data come from?

Figures are manufacturer-published claims for the Australian market, checked against ANCAP for safety ratings, the Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide for range and efficiency, the motoring press for launch and withdrawal dates as well as other sources. Each record carries the source used and the date it was last verified.

Subject to the disclaimers below, the register is maintained, as accurately as possible, as a 'single source of truth'. Monthly and sometimes more frequent research tasks update it, a converter validates the result and then the data is published live.

How to read the figures?

• A blank is not a zero and it means the figure is not published for the Australian market. Also, no values are estimated to fill any gaps.
• Range is WLTP which stands for 'Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure' is a laboratory measurement, not a promise. Real-world highway driving in Australia typically returns 15-25% less.
• For plug-in hybrids, range is EV-only electric range and power is the combined petrol plus electric system output.
• Charging speeds are peak rates held only over a narrow part of the charging curve, not an average.
• Battery capacity is usable (net) where published and gross where only gross is available.
• ANCAP ratings lapse six years after award so the year of test is shown alongside the rating. Unrated means never submitted or expired.
• Status describes the variant, not the row's year. A 2023 record can be Current if that variant was still offered in 2026.
• Specifications are Australian-market as the same model name is often sold elsewhere with a different battery chemistry, pack size or power output. Also, Chinese-market cars in particular are frequently offered with different battery packs and higher outputs than the Australian version. Figures here describe the car as delivered in Australia and will not always match an overseas review or a global specification site.
• Data confidence: High, Medium or Low, describes where a figure came from, not how many fields are filled. High means the key figures are confirmed against an Australian manufacturer page, the Green Vehicle Guide or Australian launch coverage. Medium means some figures are not yet confirmed locally, which is common for recently arrived brands. A row can be High with blanks in it and a fully populated row sourced from overseas data may not be High.

How often is it updated?

The register is generally updated on a monthly basis or sometimes more frequently. New arrivals are researched, withdrawn models are marked Discontinued and records flagged Medium or Low confidence are re-checked periodically. The date the current data was compiled is shown at the top of this page and on the register.

Photographs

No vehicle images are hosted here. Each record instead links to two image searches on Wikimedia Commons and to the manufacturer's own Australian model page. Manufacturer press images are copyright-protected and redistributing them would require a licence from each manufacturer. Wikimedia Commons results are freely licensed and reusable with attribution to the photographer.

Corrections

Corrections are welcome and genuinely useful. Readers who spot an error are the best fact-checking this register gets. Email admin@alpha8.com.au with the record ID shown on each vehicle page and a source if you have one.

The information is compiled in good faith from sources believed to be reliable and is provided for general information only. Vehicle specifications change without notice, differ between markets and build dates and may be varied by the manufacturer at any time. Privacy

This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising. Only page views are counted without cookies and without tracking you across other sites. What is recorded is aggregate only, namely, page path, referrer, country, browser and device type. So basically nothing is stored that identifies you personally. By design there is also no account and no login.

Reuse and attribution

The register is published as open reference data under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. You may use the data for research, analysis, journalism, teaching and comparison. If you intend to scrape or use automated processes to extract large amounts of data using software or bots, the conditions are that you credit it and send an email to admin@alpha8.com.au advising so.

Please attribute as EV Model Registry - Australia (www.evmodel-registry.com) along with the date you took the data, because the register changes periodically and a figure quoted without a date cannot be checked against the version it came from.

To be precise about what is being licensed: the individual specifications are facts published by manufacturers and are not owned by anyone here. What this licence covers is the compilation, the choice of fields, the structure, the verification work, the provenance ratings and the accompanying text. Anyone is free to go and gather the same facts independently.
